Chapter Book Reading Club
Welcome! I am so excited that you are interested in joining our Chapter Book Club! Please fill out this form below to inquire/sign up for our upcoming Book Club starting February 1st. Please submit one form per child.

This book club is specially designed for students who are newer to chapter book reading. This month, the group chose  Mr. Popper's Penguins by Florence Atwater and Richard Atwater.  Books are selected by the group members each month.

A little background on Ms. Scheldt. Ms. Scheldt has been a classroom teacher and literacy specialist for 21 years. She received her B.A. from Ole Miss in Elementary Education and her M. Ed as a Literacy Specialist from The University of Missouri. Most recently Ms. Scheldt became certified as an Academic Language Practitioner. She has worked as a writing staff developer for Columbia University in New York, a consultant for Time for Kids, Inc. Magazine, and as of last springs has been published as a contributing writer for Stenhouse. Ms. Scheldt has worked with students of all skill levels and abilities in grades K-5.

Book Club Details

First Meeting: Students will be introduced to Ms. Scheldt, the other readers, and introduced to the book! Ms. Scheldt will read the first chapter or two, readers will have a guided book discussion, and the reading plan for the remainder of the month will be shared! 

Book Club Structure: Each week students will have the opportunity to discuss the chapters they read and be guided through a book discussion. Students will then listen to another chapter or two read aloud by Ms. Scheldt and/or club members who would like to read. (Students WILL NOT be required to read out loud during book club meetings.)

Writing: Children will learn how to write about their reading in a way that is supportive of class requirements and state standards. 

Meeting Times
Each book club will meet twice per week, approximately 8-9 sessions, over the course of month. This club will be first come, first serve. At the end of each month, students may wish to continue. If they choose not to continue, their spot may be given away. 

After submitting this form, Ms.Scheldt will either email an invoice or add you to a waiting list for a future session. The cost of each monthly book club will be $175.

Transportation: Students who attend LUES can ride the bus down to LES. All other students will meet at the front of LES. Pickup will be at the front of the school.
