Alliance for Jewish Theatre (AJT): 2022-2023 Theatremacher Application

WHO IS THEATERMACHERS PROGRAM FOR?

Theatre Artists between 18-36 years of age that identify as Jewish.

WHAT IS THE THEATREMACHERS PROGRAM?

A fellowship for emerging theatre makers ages 18 – 36 years old to collaborate, gather for monthly labs, and work together as a cohort for a year. 

BENEFITS OF BEING A THEATREMACHER

-Participation in the Macher Lab; a playwright development opportunity exclusive to AJT Theatremacher Playwrights; and Skill-building Workshops (in the past have included workshops on Devising Theater, Writing, Poetry, Comedy, and Clowning).

-Additional programming includes peer-led Community Conversations with the cohort on conversations that feel most important to the group

-Theatremachers get an all-access-pass to the Virtual Conference and a one-year AJT membership for only $18. 

-Theatremachers can additionally apply and be accepted for up to 2 years.

-Theatremacher cohorts gain access over the year to additional free programming including, but not limited to Mensches & Mentors (Q&As with leading Jewish theatre makers which in the past have included leaders such as Melia Bensussen, AD of Hartford Stage and Adam Immerwahr, former AD of Theater J, and Leah Hamos, from the Gersh Agency)

THEATREMACHERS PROGRAM HISTORY 

Since 2014, the Alliance for Jewish Theatre has continued to connect to the theatremakers of the next generation. Each year, AJT accepts applicants to participate in the conference and gain membership into AJT. More opportunities for Macher involvement in AJT is happening everyday! 

PARTICIPATION 

-Theatremachers are required to attend 75% of AJT’s Theatremacher Events throughout the year, in order to make the most of the Theatremacher experience. 

-Attend and fully participate in the Macher showcase opportunity in October of 2024.

-Programming will run from January-October 2024.

IMPORTANT DATES 

-Monthly Macher Lab Virtual meetings, typically Sunday afternoons

-Applications open: September 1

-Applications close on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at 11:59pm EST.

 We highly encourage BIPOC, Jews of Color, LGBTQ, Neuro-Diverse, and international artists to apply. If accepted, artists should complete the 2022 Virtual Conference Registration form.
