Q: Can a potential Host apply to host more than one age group?Yes. The applicant can submit a separate application for each age group. However, the potential Host must prioritize the age group selection, e.g., Priority 1; Priority 2; Priority 3. So, if the first priority has been awarded to another league, then the other two priorities will still be in the decision-making queue.
Q: How does WNC award each tournament?
Registration process will open to all leagues for a certain amount of time with a deadline to register. Once that deadline has passed, the WNC State Commissioners will meet to discuss all applications and assigned each tournament accordingly. Locations will be announced by the end of January 2024. We will attempt to spread these around each year based on the applications received. Any age groups, not registered for will be assigned by the WNC State Commissioners.
Q: What age groups are available?
- T-Ball (6-Yr Old)
- Rookie (7-Yr Old Machine Pitch)
- Rookie (8-Yr Old Machine Pitch)
- Rookie (7-Yr Old Coach Pitch)
- Rookie (8-Yr Old Coach Pitch)
- Minor (9-Yr Old)
- Minor (10-Yr Old)
- Major (11-Yr Old)
- Major (12-Yr Old)
- Babe Ruth (13-16-Yr Old)
- Babe Ruth (16-18-Yr Old)
Note: T-Ball and Coach Pitch Tournaments are being held on a separate week/weekend so leagues can participate in both Coach Pitch and Machine Pitch Tournaments if they choose to do so. T-Ball and Coach Pitch is a WNC State only tournament has no affiliation with SE Regionals and/or World Series.
Q: What are the dates of the WNC State Tournaments?
- June 12th - June 16th, 2024 - T-Ball and Coach Pitch (7s & 8s)
- June 26th - June 30th, 2024 - Rookies (MP), Minors, and Majors
- July 10th - July 14th, 2024 - Babe Ruth 13-16's & Babe Ruth 16-18's
Q: How many teams participate in the tournament?
This varies each year based on the age group. Registration for teams will open in early 2024 and close out in mid May 2024 so preparations can begin.
Q: What type of first aid is required to be available at the field?
At a minimum, the host must have a complete first aid kit; it is always a good idea to have someone who is qualified to administer first aid, like a nurse and (or) a trainer on site. Immediate access to emergency services must be available in the event of more-serious injuries. A preferred method would be to have a medical tent or area setup where participants could come if needed for minor things or be called upon if needed for emergency situations. Sometimes volunteer fire departments will come out as serve as these for a donation to the department.
Q: Can the Host Tournament Director also manage the Host team?
No. The Host team manager cannot be the Host Tournament Director. This is considered a conflict of interest. The host league will need to assign someone from their league to fill this role and will handle things related to the facility. They will also work closely with the WNC State Commissioners assigned to the tournament. The WNC State Commissioners will be the Tournament Director over the tournament. The Host Tournament Director will need to be onsite for the entire time each day from the first pitch to the last pitch to ensure no issues arise or handle any issues with the facilities and/or fields. This duty could be swapped around between multiple individuals if needed.
Q: Who creates the schedule (game dates, times, and, if applicable, fields) for the tournament?
The WNC State tournament schedule will be created by the WNC State Commissioner and/or an Assistant State Commissioner and will be reviewed by the Host. In case of weather and/or timing issues, final decisions will be made by the WNC State Commissioner or Assistant State Commissioners.
Q: What days and times will the tournaments take place?
For the 2024 Season, tournaments are scheduled to start on Wednesday and run through Saturday unless weather becomes an issue. Hosts will need to be able to begin play as early as 12:00 PM on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday as early as 9:00 AM (based on team count). Saturday could be as early as 9:00 AM. This is all tentative based on team counts. However, with us starting at midday, it elevates some of the afternoon early thunderstorms which has caused delays in years past. Plus it may get everyone back to where they are staying at a responsible hour to enjoy dinner and relaxing before the next days activities.
Q: What is each party responsible for (Host League and State)?
- Field Prep - Host Responsible
- Scorers Table - Host will provided 1 or 2 volunteers to keep score and pitch counts (where applicable) for each game.
- Concessions - Host Responsible - needs to be open each day from start to close of last game
