Hānai Pono - Home Visiting Program

Hanai Pono is Kalauokekahuliʻs version of a home visiting program for native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander ‘ohana with keiki 0-3yrs old. These families receive support and education in pono parenting practices. Our koʻokua come along side families where they are in a nonjudgmental and encouraging way. Just as trauma can be passed down through generations, we strive to create positive change in parenting practices that affect ohana wellness for generations.

It’s designed to raise the standard of parenting from basic needs to fostering a loving & literacy rich environment. Through consistent engagement and conversation every moment of a child’s day is not only a teachable one but an opportunity for bonding.

Each family receives kakoʻo from one of our in home koʻokua. They build pilina through talking story and being a part of everyday mama kine things. They offer ʻohana a variety of ways to engage their keiki in conversation and use daily activities and ordinary items to learn through play, but most importantly, to build pilina wehena ʻole; an unseverable relationship !

We’re so fortunate to not only have modern research, but our ʻike kupuna to guide us.

Be a part of the hui !
