Respectful Maternity Care
The School of Health Sciences, Cyprus University of Technology in partnership with NGOs Birth Forward invite you to participate in the RESPECT survey on Respectful Maternity Care.

The survey addresses  opinions, experiences and satisfaction with maternity-child care services, with a focus on:
  • Respectful Maternity Care based on the principles and quality criteria as described by the WHO and other European/ International organizations.
  • Participation in decision-making that promotes and supports informed choices about maternity care options
  • Respect of choices and preferences, incl. birth companion, birthing position etc and rights, incl. informed consent, and generally,
  • Provision of person-centred care for a positive childbirth experience

Assessing the quality of #maternity care ...
... through the experiences of the recipients of #care !
Estimated completion time: 15-20 min

This is call to all women who gave birth in Cyprus in the past 5 years.

If you had more than one birth in this period, please complete a questionnaire about each of these experiences.

Every experience is unique. All together shape the puzzle.
There is no right or wrong answer. Only your honest answer! The representativeness of the findings depends on the variety of experiences captured. Add your piece to the puzzle!
What shall I do?
  • Simply respond to this anonymous online questionnaire to tell us about your experience!
  • ...and then,  share the link with friends to give the opportunity to more women to participate!
What does it involve?
We chose questionnaires used internationally in similar surveys. There are 4 sections:
  • Section A: Maternal Autonomy in Decision Making (MADM) and Mothers on Respect Index (MORi) - Birth Place Lab, University of British Columbia, Canada.
  • Sections B & C : Childbirth experience with Respect and Person-centred Maternity Care (PCMC) - Person-centred Equity Lab, University of California, San Francisco.
  • Section D: Experience of Mistreatment by Providers Index (MIST) -  also Birth Place Lab.
Followed by some general questions:
  • Section E: Infrormation about pregnancy and childbirth
  • Section F: Socio-demographic characteristics
Why shall I participate?
  • because the intention to improve maternity healthcare services becomes meaningful only when the "voices" of the women themselves are heard
  • because I wish to add my own experience to that of other women who have already participated
  • because it is important to record all experiences, both positive as well as negative
  • because it is only by looking at the bigger picture that we can see the current quality of maternity care and any potential gaps or problematic areas
Because Respectful Maternity Care is a RIGHT for everyone!
Apart from the scientific findings, the project does not provide any financial or other benefit to researchers, maternity clinics, healthcare providers or funders.

The interest is purely scientific and the findings, combined with other ongoing studies, will allow us to strengthen advocacy efforts and  enhance awareness on the importance of person-centered maternity care for a positive childbirth experience for all women!

In the next section, you will be asked to confirm your willingness to participate in the study.
Essentially, you declare that you are participating  voluntarily, after being informed about the purpose of the study, partners, process and procedures, as described here and in the next section.
