March Madness Poetry Show - Poet Sign Up
Please fill out this form if you would like to participate in the March Madness Poetry Show on Wednesday, March 13th, 2024, at 7:00pm at beer brats & beats!

No basketball in this one, folks! Poets will draw actions out of a hat and then perform their chosen action while doing their poem. It will be utter MADNESS!!!!

There will be both a poetry open mic and a poetry slam - you can only sign up for only one.

This is a ticketed event, as this show is a fundraiser for the Bigfoot Poetry Festival. Poets who sign up still must purchase a ticket. (Poets can pay the $10 pre-sale price at the door, instead of the $15 door fee.)

This is a Free Speech Event, but no hate speech of any kind will be tolerated. Freedom of speech is not freedom from accountability.

Poetry open mic or poetry slam?
*
To participate, you will bring poems that you yourself have written. When you go up to the mic, you'll draw a piece of paper from a hat, and that paper will give you an action you must perform while doing your poem. This could be an imitation, a non-offensive accent, an action / movement, a character voice, an emotion, etc.

If you are in the poetry open mic, you can only redraw from the hat one time.

If you are in the poetry slam, you can redraw as many times as you would like, but for every re-draw you will have 0.5 points taken off of your total slam score. Poets in the slam will be judged not only on their poem, but on how well they committed to the action they drew.

Got it?
*
Poets in the open mic will bring one to two poems and have 4 minutes to share.

Poets in the poetry slam must come prepared with three poems. This will be a three round scored poetry slam. Performances must still adhere to normal poetry slam time limits, so stay under the 3 minute time limit. Depending on how many sign ups, there might be cuts from round-to-round.

Make sense?

I understand that this will be an event with no mask requirements, but masks are encouraged as we do have illnesses and COVID variants making moves about town.
