The Mel Sather Public Media Internship Fund connects Alaskans who want to explore, pursue or diversify a career in broadcasting with public radio and television stations that have the capacity and need to grow Alaska’s skilled workforce. You are a potential host.
The Fund was seeded in 2020 and receives donations made annually in the memory of Mel Sather, a pioneering broadcast engineer responsible for developing much of Alaska’s public and private media infrastructure. Additionally, Mel was an educator.
If you have a need or desire to mentor an intern, please complete and submit this application. The Alaska Community Foundation hosts this fund; the program itself is administered by the Sather-Kaplan family, and hopes to distribute up to $30K in this round. Internships up to $10K will be considered. Applications are received throughout the year; however, most funding decisions are made prior to June 1. It is suggested that you define your needs and submit your application to us by April 19, 2024 for a summer or fall internship.
