Testing Adenovirus in Bearded Dragons
Agamid adenovirus-1 (AgAdv-1) testing in Pogona vitticeps

Veterinary-Parasitology and VetExotics are starting Phase 1 of the Adenovirus Bearded Dragon Project. During this phase we will be gathering information from Bearded Dragon owners across the country with a view to perform a prevalence study in the United Kingdom.

Phase 2 will be the testing phase where we will be offering highly sensitive PCR testing at a reduced cost. During this phase, other studies will also be performed from samples collected.

Adenovirus is a concern within the Bearded Dragon population in the United Kingdom. Many of these reptiles do not show any symptoms, which means that they may be spreading the virus without us knowing about it. A prevalence study from which we can understand the extent of this virus within the captive population is needed. By doing this we can reduce transmission and suffering.
