“Start of ’23-’24 Session” Youth Lobby Week RSVP

Join the Massachusetts Youth Climate Coalition to earn our state legislator's support for climate justice legislation at our “Start of ’23-’24 Session” Youth Lobby Week (week of 2/6/23). We advocate for policies aligned with our coalition Policy Principles. The Policy Priority List is being finalized as bills are submitted but as of now they include:

  1. Inclusive & Transparent Governance - rules amendments to make Committee Votes public
  2. Environmental Justice - Indoor/Outdoor Air Quality Bill
  3. Renewable Energy - Zero Carbon Renovation Fund Bill
  4. Equitable Funding - Polluter Pay Bill
  5. Intersectional Climate Justice & Civics Education - Interdisciplinary Climate Justice Ed Bill
  6. Nature, Land & Food-based Health - (TBA, still taking nominations)

We will do virtual trainings on how to lobby and the content of the priority bills on Monday (2/6), in person meetings and a rally at the MA Statehouse Tuesday (2/7), as well as virtual meetings Wednesday (2/8) - Friday (2/10). The detailed agenda can be found here.

Making sure that you are able to speak to your legislators takes A LOT of planning. Therefore we NEED you to complete this RSVP, respond diligently to your assigned facilitators, and attending trainings. It's okay if you're still sorting out scheduling conflicts--fill out the form anyway as long as you're interested, including information about your conflicts so we can do our best to plan around it.

This event is designed to center the voices of people ages 14-24. If you're 25+ we still welcome your support but we will ask you indicate that below and prepare to take on more supportive roles, like note-taker, practice legislator, moral support in meetings, help navigating the statehouse, securing in-kind donations, etc.

Also, if you have relationships with any other state legislators, that might also make you a persuasive lobbyist. Feel free to list any here with their position (e.g. Rep. Ultrino, Sen. Barrett):

Do you have any interest in taking leadership roles beyond just attending the event? If so, check any roles you might want to take on.
Are there any specific times the week of 2/6/23 that you know you CAN'T attend a call?
We try to work around class schedules, but given legislator's busy schedule this may require missing class. So please emphasize times that are absolutely non-negotiable (Final Exams, work).  If you will need a note to confirm your attendance, reach out to Adult administrator Eben Bein (eben@ourclimate.us) on a case by case basis.
Do you have any internet connectivity issues, language barriers, medical conditions, disabilities, or different abilities for which you need accommodations during the event?
Any other questions/comments/etc. you have? (We will reach out with an answer!)
