The first step towards the Summit was taken in 2009, when the student government advisors at three southern Oregon community colleges (Umpqua CC, Southwestern Oregon CC, and Rogue CC) came up with an idea: a one-day leadership conference for the student leaders at our three colleges. We wanted something that was conveniently located and affordable, would bring together our students involved/interested in leadership and would meet the needs of emerging student leaders. In 2015, Klamath CC became a partner, hosting the Summit at their campus.
In each succeeding year, as we encountered one another in our various statewide journeys, our discussions took us yet a few more steps forward towards our vision and we began to see the Summit emerge from the clouds and develop more clarity. The Summit moved under the Oregon Student Leadership & Activities Professionals (OSLAP) umbrella and advisors from the northern part of the state began discussing a sister summit.
The Southern Oregon College Student Leadership Summit is, in one respect, our journeys end. But in reality it has marked the beginning of what has become an annual event and a strong partnership between our respective colleges. The Summit offers students less familiar with leadership the opportunity to travel down new paths and allow emerging student leaders the opportunity to be adventurous and look at leadership from a different perspective.
This year's Summit is hosted by Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, and is scheduled for Saturday, November 16 from 9am-5pm. Registration is $35 per participant and includes morning and afternoon snacks and a lunch meal.
Each participant will need to be registered individually. A confirmation email with additional information regarding the conference is sent upon registration. An invoice is sent to each college/organization for the total number registered after the Summit.
Preferred registration deadline: November 6, 2019. Cancellations must be made prior to November 6 for a refund.
For colleges/participants travel to Roseburg the evening prior, local hotel information will be provided.
