The 2023 Faribault Chili Contest is Saturday, Oct 7 2023 in Historic Downtown Faribault

• Contestants provide their own tables, chairs, shelter, cords, garbage cans and garbage bags, etc 

• Contestants are responsible for supplying all their own utensils, extension cords and heat source.

• Contestants will be assigned a 10’ x 10’ location on Central Ave. with power available

• There are very few rules to this competition – so all must be strictly followed. 

(Not abiding by these rules will result in disqualification)

• The heat source is required to maintain a safe serving temperature  

(State guideline REQUIRES food temp of 140 degrees F during serving times - 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm)

On the day of the Competition:

1. Report to the Organizational Tent at 223 Central Ave as early as 11:00 am for your location assignment and serving cups.  

2. Set up must be completed by 11:59 am – contest begins at NOON

3. Each contestant must bring 4 gallons of chili.

4. Be prepared to serve at least 200 servings at 1 ounce each in the cups provided.

5. Tasting cups are provided for all contestants.

6. No sampling of chili is allowed directly from the cooking/serving pot.

7. Contestants must use the sampling cups provided.

8. Tasters will be given tasting spoons and official ballots.  Tasters will be identified by a bracelet or a stamped hand once the fee is paid.  Each person selects their one favorite chili.  Participants are encouraged to try all entries.

9. Tasters return ballots to the official ballot box at the Organizational Tent to enter their selection.

10. The contest ends at 2:00 pm.

11. Results of the judging will be announced later in the day.

12. All contestants are responsible for cleanup of their area and removing all items at the conclusion of the competition.

Prizes will be awarded for the top vote getters- $250 for first place!

There is also a $100 prize for the Best Decorated Booth.

Pick a theme: zombie chili, tropical chili, road trippin’ chili.  Decorate the booth and dress the part!
