On the Friday before the meeting, Jason Buckley and Tom Bigglestone of The Philosophy Man will be running a series of demonstration workshops at the Prep School part of St John's College School, our venue for the weekend. It's a short walk from the Senior School which will be our venue for the main Network Meeting.
There will be two or three workshops in the morning, and two or three in the afternoon, with a variety of facilitation approaches and a range of ages from 4-11, including:
Philosophy-in-role - participants philosophising as participants in an interactive story
Facilitator-in-role - the facilitator is an alien, robot or time traveller perplexed by modern human activity
Discussion plans - using multiple questions to explore different dimensions of the same issue
Thinkers' Games - making the thinking physical to maximise engagement
There will also be a variety of community builder activities selected to address the needs of each individual class of students, as identified by their class teacher.
Between sessions there will be the opportunity for a debrief and to ask questions. Tom and Jason will be running sessions in parallel so there will be lots to see. There should be lots to interest both new and experienced facilitators - and offering the workshops has secured us a lovely venue for the weekend!
Please indicate which sessions you would like to attend below. The school will be operating as normal on Friday, so please bring your own lunch.
Please arrive between 9.00 a.m. and 9.15 a.m. for the morning session, which will finish around 12 p.m.
The afternoon session will start at 1 p.m. and will finish around 3.30 p.m.You are welcome to attend either or both, and for those staying for the whole day we will suggest swapping facilitators at half-time.
