Kirby School District will offer a 100% online option for the 2020-21 school year for all students, K-12. Students who are enrolled and accepted into our Kirby Virtual Academy (KVA) must live in the Kirby School District or have an approved school choice application.

This learning model is not best suited for all students. Students who will be successful in
this program must possess the following qualities:
- Self-motivated
- Independent learner
- Computer literate student or parent
- Good time management skills
- Effective communicator
- Personal commitment to learning
- Academic readiness

Student expectations:
- Maintain acceptable attendance and participation. Attendance will be determined
by participation in real time activities and meeting deadlines for assignments.
-Students will receive a KSD Chromebook, if needed. Internet connection is required.
-Students must make adequate progress or no credit may be received.
-Students who are not on grade level, need professional intervention, or special
services may elect to participate in KVA, but are best served in the traditional
school environment.

Family Expectations:
Families who select KVA will need to provide the home support needed to shepherd their
children through the education process with more and sometimes significant support for
younger children. Early elementary students focus deeply on learning foundations skills
like reading and foundational math skills. As students mature, less direct parent
guidance should be required to be successful if the student possesses independent
study skills and strong time management skills.

Students choosing to enroll in Kirby Virtual Academy must be prepared to remain a virtual student through the end of the 9 weeks.

Enrollment forms must be complete and submitted by July 28, 2020.
