Wilkes University Alumni Exhibition: Celebrating the Blue and Gold

The Sordoni Art Gallery is pleased to present the Wilkes University Alumni Exhibition: Celebrating the Blue and Gold scheduled for display from June 18 to August 11, 2024. Join us in celebrating 50 years at Sordoni Art Gallery by participating in this special Wilkes University Alumni exhibition. This exhibition is open to all Wilkes alumni to enter and will be juried by Ryan Ward, Curator of the Maslow Collection.

Exhibition Schedule

- Submissions Open - September 1, 2023 - Submissions Close - November 15, 2023 - Selections Announced - March 31, 2024 - Work to Gallery - May 6, 2024 - Exhibition Opening - June 18, 2024 - Exhibition Closing - August 11, 2024

Eligibility

All Wilkes University alumni are eligible to apply.

Entries

- Work must be ready to be displayed, with display instructions included (if applicable). This includes ensuring that all 2D work is properly framed and wired, and all 3D work has bases and handling instructions. 

- Only work from the accepted images will be exhibited. All accepted work must be ready for exhibition and appropriately presented for display including framing, wiring, and pedestals (if a specific base is part of the piece). SAG reserves the right not to include work submitted in inappropriate condition or work not accurately represented in the digital image. 

- Accepted work must be delivered by July 22, 2023, with a prepaid return label. Work will be packed and returned in the same materials that it was shipped in. 

Jurors

Ryan Ward is the Curator of The Maslow Collection in Scranton, Pennsylvania and the Owner/ Director of The Ruffed Grouse Gallery in Narrowsburg, New York. He specializes in Contemporary, Folk, and Self- Taught Art and has curated numerous exhibitions including, “Workstyles: The Labor Portraits of Mildred’s Lane in Conversation with The Maslow Collection,” “Forming The Maslow Collection: A Reflection on the NYC Art Scene in the 80s and 90s,” “SLUFF: Visual Essays on Gilberton, PA by Alex Roth,” “MAKE, BELIEVE: The Maslow Collection and the Moving Image,” and “CO-OPTIC: Philadelphia- based Painters at Shepherd University.” As Exhibition Director of Test Pattern Gallery, he organized diverse exhibitions of local and international artists. Ward holds an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. His own work explores the malleability of history through painting and installation. As the recipient of the 2014 Murray Dessner Memorial Travel Prize, he executed an in-depth investigation of curatorial methods employed at American historical sites. This research has led to various lectures as well as recent solo and group exhibitions in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, West Virginia, New Mexico, and Italy. Ward has taught at Studio Arts College International in Florence, Italy, and currently teaches drawing and painting at Marywood University.

Application and Deadline

- Application opens September 1, 2023 and closes November 15, 2023.

- Work will be juried digitally.

- Fill out the form below with your information. Then, please email melissa.carestia@wilkes.edu your artwork and:

• Submit high-resolution JPEGS. 
• Each image should be 300 DPI with the largest side being 1280 px. 
• Name each file LASTNAME_SUBMISSION# - ex. Smith_1. 
• All images must accurately represent the artwork. 3D work may have 2 images per submission. 
• Ensure the number of the entry number corresponds to the submission number on the form. If files are not formatted in this manner, they will not be considered. 

No artwork should be brought to the gallery before acceptance.

Notification of Selection

Notices of the jurors’ decision will be sent via email no later than March 31, 2024.

Accepted Work Insurance and Liability 

Sordoni Art Gallery provides wall-to-wall, all-risk fine arts insurance coverage for the entire contents of the exhibition.

Reproduction Rights

By completing and submitting the entry form, alumni selected for the exhibition consent to having artwork reproduced in any promotional material, including but not limited to announcements, invitations, press releases, signage, and social media.
