Seattle Pride Statement Against Anti-Trans Attacks
Thank you for signing on to Seattle Pride's statement against anti-trans attacks, specifically the ongoing effort by Texas Governor Greg. Abbott. We appreciate your full support, and look forward to sharing that support with those who are being targeted.
Full Statement:
Seattle Pride is joined by our community partners in emphatically denouncing Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s transphobic attempt to criminalize gender affirming healthcare. Gov. Abbott’s order only further stigmatizes the transgender community and prevents access to treatment that can prevent suicide and depression among transgender youth.
Requiring the public and professionals, including teachers and doctors, to report parents who give their child gender affirming care is wrong on many human levels. This is clear, direct and continued attack on the transgender community in a state that has proposed more anti-transgender bills than any other in the U.S.
As Gov. Abbott and the Texas legislature continue to attack the transgender community through anti-transgender legislation and orders, Seattle Pride and our community partners are calling for community-wide support as we take collective action. We must stand together to prevent inaccurate, harmful, and hateful beliefs about the trans community.
It is critical that we as a community stand against this transphobic attack on transgender youth and families.
