July 8th-12th | 10a - 1p | Waldorf Area | Gr. 1-6 | Led by Dr. Rochelle Somerville
Ignite the spark of creativity and innovation with our Kids STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Camp! This dynamic summer camp is designed for young minds (grades 1-6) eager to explore the wonders of physics at our
PHYSICS-FRENZY WEEK at STEM camp! Campers will engage in hands-on experiments, from building simple machines to exploring the principles of electricity and magnetism. Dive into the fascinating realms of motion, forces, and energy, igniting curiosity and sparking a lifelong passion for understanding the fundamental laws of the universe.
This camp warmly embraces explorers of every ability level, providing an inclusive space for all participants.
Featured Projects:
Sound Science: Campers learn about concepts like frequency, amplitude, and pitch through the exploration os properties of sound by conducting experiments such as making musical instruments out of everyday materials, creating sound waves with tuning forks or rubber bands, or investigating how sound travels through different mediums.
Mirror Maze: Create a maze using mirrors and flashlights. Campers can learn about reflection and how light behaves as they navigate through the maze and observe how light reflects off the mirrors.
Static Electricity Experiments: Campers can learn about static electricity by experimenting with different materials and seeing how they interact. Activities could include making static electricity with balloons or combs, creating "static cling" with balloons and paper.
Pendulum Painting: Set up a pendulum using a string and a weight (like a small cup filled with sand or pebbles). Attach a paintbrush to the weight and let it swing over a large piece of paper. Campers can observe and experiment with how the length of the string and the angle of release affect the patterns created.
Key Features:
Hands-On Learning: Campers will actively engage in hands-on activities, gaining a practical understanding of STEM concepts by creating tangible projects.
STEAM Integration: The camp seamlessly integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics, providing a holistic approach to STEM education and fostering well-rounded skills.
Creativity and Design: Encourage creativity and design thinking as campers tackle projects that allow them to express their unique ideas and artistic flair.
Problem Solving: Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills through project-based learning. Campers will overcome challenges and find innovative solutions while working on their projects.Creativity and Design: Encourage creativity and design thinking as campers tackle projects that allow them to express their unique ideas and artistic flair.
Safety First: Prioritize safety with experienced instructors guiding campers through proper tool usage and project construction, ensuring a secure and enjoyable workshop experience.
