Grow Your Idea: Museum Edition

Reviving historical coral museum collections to decipher past geochemical climate signals

There exists a vast and under-utilized coral collection at the Museum of Natural History (MfN) Berlin containing geolocated corals that were collected >200 years ago. To leverage this valuable resource, we have acquired funding to bring together local Berlin Geo.X members, and a few select key external experts for a 2-day round table and discussion at the museum of Natural History at 23-24 November 2023. This event will encompass an extensive period dedicated to the examination of the extensive coral collection housed at the museum. The objective is to convene a panel of experts, including museum curators, coral specialists, and geochemical researchers, in order to explore potential projects aimed at extracting valuable environmental data from the unique assortment of coral skeletons within the museum's holdings.

The event will take part at the Invalidenstraße 43, 10115 Berlin. Meeting point in the mornings
are the stairs leading to the main entrance of the Museum of Natural History.
