Kia Ora Students!
The Students of Rural Health Aotearoa (SoRHA), with support from Hauora Taiwhenua Rural Health Network (HTRHN) are excited to invite you to take part in our first Rural Schools Visits for 2023 taking place this June and July. We’re looking for all students passionate about rural health and keen to share their enthusiasm with the rural communities we visit (you don't need to be rural or previously involved with SoRHA, everyone is welcome to get involved!).
These 5-day, fully-funded trips aim to reach a wide number of rural schools, to promote rural health careers inspire and encourage students to consider pursuing a health career. If you would like to know more visit our website:
Rural School Visits - Hauora Taiwhenua (htrhn.org.nz)During a school visit you will run interactive workshops such as CPR, blood pressure, making dental moulds, examining x-rays and testing eyesight as well as sharing your own training experiences and knowledge about your own journey and life as a student. The activities are not fixed and if you have an idea, we’d love to hear from you. We would also especially like to invite anyone who whakapapa and have links back to these schools and regions. When you aren't visiting schools you will have the opportunity to visit rural health practices, hospitals and meet rural health professionals.
Who can apply?: Any current 2nd year+ undergraduate or postgraduate student studying in a health related programme at any Wānanga, Polytechnic or University.
Costs: **FREE**. Thanks to generous support from the HTRHN with funding from Te Whatu Ora, these trips are fully funded. Plus selected students will receive a one year free membership to Hauora Taiwhenua Rural Health Network.
Transport: A rental van for the group will be organised - drivers over 21+ are needed for larger groups. Transport to the starting point and after the trip ends will be the individual student’s responsibility (we can't subsidise this part).

Kaitaia Northland –Starting on 26th of June to the 30th of June,

Starting on 26th of June to the 30th of June, departs from Wellington
Taupō –
Starting on 17th of July to the 21st of July, departs from Auckland
Canterbury –
Starting on 17th of July to the 21st of July, departs from Christchurch

Please note that we would like to give preference to those who whakapapa back to the region, are Māori, are Pasifika, come from a rural background and are available to attend the whole trip in the dates allocated.
