OPIRG McMaster Garden Committee
Want to be on the committee for OPIRG McMaster's community garden project? Here is everything you need to know about the project so far (https://www.opirgmcmaster.org/portfolio-items/community-garden/)

We are looking for a team of people who are passionate about nature, wellness, and community food justice! As a member of the committee, you will be taking an equal share of the responsibility to plan and grow the garden, have your ideas and views heard, and help bring the garden to life!
If you have experience with social justice, food justice, community, agricultural, gardening, or environmental work, we highly encourage you to apply!

However, if you don't have a lot of expertise in gardening, please still apply - the idea of a community garden is that members of the community get to engage with and learn about things they might not otherwise have the chance to. We will learn and work together, and there will always be support.

Note:
-applicants must be planning to live in Hamilton for the upcoming school year.
-Non-student members of the McMaster community who are also OPIRG McMaster members are also welcome to apply.

Application open until AUGUST 20!

Do you have any experiences that will help you as a member of the planning committee? (Include specific experiences related to the position you are most interested it)  *
What do you think makes an effective leadership team for a project like this? *
What does food justice mean to you? *
In Canada, food security disproportionately affects BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) communities (Tarasuk, Mitchell, & Dachner 2016). At the same time, urban agriculture has an unfortunate history of being dominated by whiteness and a paternalistic intent to "bring good food to others" (Guthman 2009). In order to practice of framework of solidarity rather than saviour-ship, it is essential that the leadership of projects that address food justice be diverse and representative, and bring a variety of experiences to the project. As such, if you feel comfortable sharing this information, we would like to know if you self-identify as a member of any of the following groups:
Do you identify as an Indigenous person?
Clear selection
Do you identify as a member of a racialized community?
Clear selection
Is there anything else you would like us to know about you? (optional) *
Thank you for filling out this application! You will receive a email from us in the near future letting you know the results. Please note that whether you are on the committee or not, we are hoping to have plenty of opportunities for everyone who wants to get involved with the garden in the near future!
