The Business Incubator is a Juniors level Honors course in the Business Department that offers students a unique opportunity to become true entrepreneurs and business experts.  During the year long course, teams of 4-5 students learn about idea creation, marketing, accounting, human resources, teamwork, as well as the legal and financial aspects of creating and running a business.  To further inspire creativity, a customized classroom called the Innovation Incubator has been designed to enhance brainstorming and fostering collaboration as students develop products and services for the real world.

This year marks the 8th Anniversary of the LFHS Business Incubator program!  The teams are taught by master and leader certified level teachers in the INCubatoredu program and supported throughout the year by local businesspeople and academics working as mentors and coaches.  The LFHS Business Incubator course is considered one of the best in the country and has sent a team to the National INCubatoredu Pitch Competition Finals in 2017, 2018 and 2019.  Two of the 2020 Pitch Night teams competed in the final round of the Illinois Math and Science Academy Power Pitch event last year. Brush Bestie, 2021 Foundation Cup winners, recently pitched their idea at SxSW Edu.

During the recent Academic Pitches the teams competing in this year's event were selected by our judges, a group of outside business executives and entrepreneurs. The teams awarded funding at Pitch Night and those with enough donor and investor capital will go on the Business Accelerator – a Senior level Honors business class.  This class allows these teams to continue the development of their business next year.

At the Pitch Night 2022, the LFHS Foundation will be awarding $10,000 in prize funding to two or more of the business teams as seed money for the further development of their product and services. All teams will also be actively seeking private investors – much in the same way as seen on “Shark Tank”.
