Background
We are a local community-based club, not a professional organisation. Our coaches are experienced swimmers and work to a plan. We aim to provide fun group classes where kids from 5 – 12 years can come together to learn and improve their swimming techniques. It caters for those learning to swim, through to those wanting to work on their breathing and stroke technique.

Club nights
Eastbourne Swim Club runs over the summer each Thursday night, starting at 5pm, at the Eastbourne Summer Pool. Our first club night is Thursday 14th November 2019, running until 5th March 2020 (11 nights). We take a break over the Christmas school holidays, last night 19th December 2019, resuming 6th February 2020. Club night(s) may be cancelled in the event of cold and wet weather. Any cancellations will be made by 4pm on the day and an email will be sent to members and posted on Facebook.

Ages
We cater for ages 5 to 12. Children turning 5 by the end of the year can participate from the start of the season. Children turning 13 before race night (end of the season) won’t be able to race as our oldest race group is age 12.

Race night
Race night is held on the second to last club night of the season (with the last club night being the postponement date).  This season race night will be held on 27th February 2020. Children in levels 2 and above (12 years and under on the night) can register to compete in various races in the main pool. Lesson times continue in the learners pool as normal with an emphasis on fun races. Full details are made available closer to the time. This is a great night for all the family and ends with fun races, including the popular parent/child relay and coaches races! There is also a free bbq!

Levels
We will assign each swimmer to a level based on their registration form. There may be an initial shuffle of swim class levels in the first week, however there will be no changes to sessions from week 2.

Level 1 - These classes are in the learners (smaller) pool. If your child isn’t confident to go in the big pool then they need to be in Level 1. There are two coaches, with one coach in the pool.

Level 2 - Shallow end of big pool. Your child must be confident to go in the big pool. Working on basic strokes. Coach pool-side and in the pool.

Level 3 - Deep end of big pool. Your child must be confident to go in the deep end of the big pool. Can swim to the side reliably. Working on getting a good basic stroke. Coach pool-side and in the pool.

Level 4 - Can swim 1-2+ lengths. Working on breathing and stroke technique.

Level 5 - Can swim 2+ lengths. Working on stroke techniques and developing a variety of strokes.

Level 6 - Can swim multiple lengths confidently in a variety of strokes. Working on improving techniques and developing endurance.
