The Scout Youth Foundation (SYF) is a charitable fund set up to help make scouting available to all. For more information about the Foundation please have a look at our website.
This form is for Group Leaders to apply for SYF scholarships on behalf of Youth.
Scholarships are available for:
- Youth to attend Jamboree, Venture, National Regatta, National Schools, and other National Events.
- supporting day-to-day scouting costs for youth in their local areas. Examples include; Uniform Costs, Travel Costs, National Fee Costs, Tramps and Camp attendance costs.
Criteria
Scholarships are available for current or potential youth facing hardship, where cost is a barrier to them fully participating in Scouts. We welcome applications from all Scout Groups in Aotearoa, with a particular encouragement for Groups in Inclusion funding categories 7-10 to apply.
For example, those we have recently supported have faced combinations of the following circumstances:
- Parent(s) on benefits; or very low income
- Exacerbating family circumstances (disabled youth member, or family meeting the costs of other disabled children; youth being raised by grandparents or other family members; youth in Oranga Tamariki care)
- Family crisis (e.g severe health issue in the family, death of a parent)
- Being able to provide a disadvantaged youth with development experiences, where it is clear that the family has little or no ability to do this (e.g Neurodiverse Youth member).
Review of applications will consider whether funds could be made available from group or zone funds, trust funding, grants or other sources. Where groups have access to other regular funding sources (such as grants from trusts) it is expected that groups will co-fund youth requiring assistance using those grants.
