Tectonic Theater Project’s Moment Work - Level 1
Theater Educator Intensive Workshop
Presented by Perpich Center for Arts Education

Theater Educators and Directors (both K-12 and College/University) are invited to join us for a 12-hour intensive workshop with a senior teaching artist from the internationally renowned Tectonic Theater Project. The workshop will train educators in the company’s original theater devising methodology known as “Moment Work,”  focusing on the basics such as the creation of theatrical moments using all the elements of the stage, and the beginnings of layering and sequencing. No prior experience in devising is necessary. Just come with an open mind and a willingness to dive in!

Tectonic provides training year-round in Moment Work, a collaborative method for devising theater that uses every available element of stagecraft--sound, lights, architecture, text, costumes, and more--to bring a story to life. It pushes writers, actors, designers, and directors to come together in an experimental setting and use these elements to create moments: units of theatrical time. Artists then layer and weave these moments into a compelling narrative that can only be told on the stage. The resulting work is uniquely and specifically theatrical. The technique breaks apart the traditional roles of theater artists, enfranchising artists of all disciplines to be part of the whole creative process and to be true investigators of the possibilities of the medium.
