Climate Spring’s The Hot House development lab for scripted long form TV and feature film projects returns for its 2024 edition, in partnership with BBC Writers and Film London.Applications will open April 22nd 2024 and close on June 30th 2024.
CREATIVE BRIEF - Stories of Transition
What would happen if we got serious about tackling climate change? For The Hot House 2024 we invite creatives to engage with stories of the climate transition. One of the superpowers of film and TV lies in showing worlds and ways of life that we can aspire to. What's often missing in climate storytelling is this very vision - a tangible and relatable portrayal of a near-future where we've transitioned away from fossil fuels and have seriously committed to healing our planet.
Stories of transition show how we can journey together, how the journey - even though it will inevitably be challenging and tough - can be a story of adventure, courage and community. We urgently need stories to show that there is no place like planet earth, it is our only home, and that we can journey through this adversity together.
The climate crisis is a story of transition. With this brief we wish to inspire screenwriters to craft compelling new stories that shift the dominant 'doomsday' climate narrative, and flip the question from ‘what is the future we are trying to prevent?’ to ‘what is the future we are fighting for?’.
