We are excited to announce the CMSCA & Chess Klub Scholastic Chess League for the 2023-2024 academic year, a collaborative initiative between the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Scholastic Chess Association (CMSCA) and Chess Klub.

Hosted at Chess Klub's location at 14045 Ballantyne Corporate Pl, Ste 101, Charlotte, NC 28277, this league offers students from elementary to middle school to high school the opportunity to engage in USCF-rated chess matches. League Nights are scheduled on select Fridays from 6:00pm to 9:00pm ET, beginning on September 8, 2023, and continuing through May 17, 2024.

Participation is free and requires only a current USCF membership. Players will be categorized into divisions based on school level and will be further divided into sections by their chess ratings. Points can be scored for your team either at league nights or at various CMSCA tournaments held throughout the year.

Trophies, medals, and even cash prizes from Chess Klub will be awarded to top performers. Note that tournament formats and prizes are subject to change. We eagerly await your participation!

What you need:

A current USCF membership - that’s it! CHESS KLUB will host the league as a FREE event!  The US Chess Federation (USCF) Membership can be purchased at the tournament. For information on fees or to apply online, go to the USCF website.  Please note that USCF is an external organization.

How you help your team:

Score points in USCF-rated games either at league nights or at CMSCA tournaments.

Setup

Players will be split into 3 divisions: elementary, middle and high school. Each division will have 4 sections: board 1, board 2, board 3 and general. Players will be distributed among the sections by rating each night depending on attendance for each school.

• Top 3 Team League Points, 
• Top 3 Individual League Points

Medals: 

• Top 3 League Night points Section 1, 
• Top 3 League Night points Section 2, 
• Top 3 League Night points Section 3

Cash Prize:

• CHESS KLUB will reward cash prizes to Top Individual League Points

• Please bring your notation book if you have one.
• Chess board and chess pieces will be provided at the facility.
• Tournament setup, format, and/or cash prizes are subject to changed at any time.
