Reminder of pre-requisites -

Pre-requisite for KIM B5 Advanced Jazz Band (Jazz 2):

Saxes, Trombones, Trumpets (and any other wind player) have to be in either concert band, symphonic band, or wind symphony in order to take ANY jazz band classes. Additionally, students in the jazz bands are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO BE ENROLLED IN PRIVATE LESSONS THAT ADDRESS IMPROVISATION/JAZZ STYLE (see private lessons list on our www.lphsbands.com website).

Vocalists need to be enrolled in “Show Choir/Vocal Jazz” class taught by Lois Johnson in order to sing in any of the jazz bands. According to Ms. Johnson the class is called “show choir/vocal jazz” but the students who want to just do Vocal Jazz - they will be splitting the class into two separate classes although they will be meeting in the same period. This will be offered the same time as our advanced jazz band. B5. Additionally, vocalists are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO BE ENROLLED IN PRIVATE VOCAL LESSONS (see private lessons list on our www.lphsbands.com website). Guitarists are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO BE ENROLLED IN PRIVATE LESSONS before joining the jazz bands. (see private lessons list on our www.lphsbands.com website).

Bass Players need to be in an orchestra OR a wind ensemble playing upright bass to be in a jazz band. There are classes offered A1, A2, A4, B6, B7, B8 for this. We are getting a new orchestra director this upcoming year. Any questions for orchestra for next year may still be directed towards Vanese McPherson via email: vmcpherson@alpinedistrict.org. A days are the wind ensembles. There is an audition process for the wind ensembles and orchestral ensembles as well. See above audition processes for the wind ensembles. For orchestral ensemble audition information please contact Mrs. McPherson. B Days are the orchestral ensembles.

Drummers/Percussionists need to be in a percussion ensemble class with Mr. Conder. These classes are offered either A1 or A2 (See above for which class you are assigned to because of the grade you are in). For questions and audition information for percussion ensembles contact Mr. Conder: jconder@alpinedistrict.org. In addition to this class, drummers are also HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO BE ENROLLED IN PRIVATE LESSONS WITH A DRUMSET TEACHER. (see private lessons list on our www.lphsbands.com website)

Pianists are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO BE ENROLLED IN PRIVATE LESSONS before joining any of the jazz bands. (see private lessons list on our www.lphsbands.com website). They are also HIGHLY encouraged (especially ADVANCED JAZZ PIANISTS) to be enrolled in an independent music class where they can practice their classical/jazz/private lesson/class material during that independent music class. Pianists are highly encouraged to seek out accompaniment opportunities at the school (choral with Ms. Johnson or solo accompaniment).

Pre-requisite for KIM A0 Marching Band:
- Wind players - Be in at LEAST one of Ms. Kim’s concert bands (A1, A2, or A4 for the year long class)
- Percussion/Drumline - Be in Mr. Conder’s percussion ensemble class (A1 or A2)
- POTENTIAL for orchestra students/choral students/musical theatre students to use these classes as the pre-requisite into Marching Band (case by case approval via Ms. Kim’s approval - jkim@alpinedistrict.org).

Pre-requisite for HOPE A1 ADV. PERCUSSION:
- At least 1 year of Lone Peak Intermediate Percussion class

Pre-requisite for HOPE A2 INTERMEDIATE PERCUSSION:
- 1-3 years of percussion ensemble class experience
