Women's Storytelling Festival Application 2025 & Beyond
PLEASE READ BEFORE SUBMITTING:
1. We welcome applications from women storytellers and TGNC storytellers.
2. We welcome all types of storytellers to apply - folk, tall tale, personal, etc. - but only storytellers.
3. Festival performers will be compensated. Terms will be proposed if you are invited to perform.
4. Performer proposed compensation is preliminary and non binding: Tier 1 storytellers, performing 100 - 120 minutes of content over the course of the festival weekend, will receive a base pay of $600 plus up to $400 in travel pay. Tier 2 storytellers, performing 40 to 50 minutes of content, will receive $300 plus up to $300 in travel expenses. Tier 3 storytellers will perform one story, approximately 12 minutes long, and receive $75. Virtual only storytellers will perform one story, approximately 12 minutes long, online only, and receive $50.
5. There will be accommodations made for selling merchandise through the festival crew.
6. We base our selection first and foremost on quality - writing and performance skills. After that, we look for storytellers who are enthusiastic, professional (who conduct themselves professionally even if storytelling is not their primary profession), and willing to promote the festival and their role in it. It is also a bonus to have performed with Better Said Than Done before - and exhibited all the aforementioned qualities. Failing that, it helps to have participated as an audience member.

The 2025 WSF will take place March 21 - 23, 2025, in Fairfax, VA. The Festival Committee will make the determination about storytellers for the 2025 festival around July of 2024. Applications for 2025 should be submitted no later than May 1, 2024.

What "tier" are you applying for? Please note that there are more tier 3 spaces available than tier 2 and more tier 2 than tier 1. If you are willing to participate at any level, it increases your chance of being invited for the first time.
