*PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!*
Welcome Welch White Tigers! I am excited to invite all 4th and 5th grade students to come sing in chorus this year! It is an honor to serve as your choir director for the 2019-2020 school year! The unique design of the District 204 choral program allows students to begin the choral experience in 4th grade, and carry that foundation until 12th grade. Singing in elementary choir provides children with a larger ensemble experience, while at the same time providing students with the vocal skills learned in private voice lessons. At this age, the healthiest singing experience for the developing voice is singing in a choral ensemble, where young singers can avoid vocal strain and develop a strong singing voice through proper vocal technique.
To participate in choir:
-Please complete this enrollment form.
-Once you click submit, your response will be received.
-Rehearsals this year will take place on TUESDAYS, beginning on Tuesday, September 17th.
-Rehearsals meet in the Welch multipurpose room from 8:00-8:50AM.
-Please have students arrive BETWEEN 7:50-8:00AM so that we can start promptly at 8:00AM.
-Students should enter through the FRONT MAIN DOOR and proceed directly to the multipurpose room.
(Please do not drop students off until 7:50AM as the doors will not be open until that time).
-All choir members will need a GREEN WELCH CHOIR SHIRT (same as last year) for PERFORMANCES.
-To purchase a shirt, please send a $10 CHECK (with phone number written on it) made payable to Welch School with your child AT THE FIRST REHEARSAL IN A SEALED ENVELOPE LABELLED WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME.
-Please indicate the shirt size in the signup below.
-If this is a financial hardship, please contact me to borrow a shirt. Our performance attire will be nice jeans and our chorus shirts, so it is imperative that every child has a choir shirt.
Attendance at rehearsals is vitally important to the success of our ensemble and to the musical development of each individual member. We learn new parts each week, and missing a rehearsal means missing valuable learning time. I understand that there are occasional unavoidable circumstances/illnesses that may require your child to miss a rehearsal.
*If your child must miss rehearsal, PLEASE email me the morning of his/her absence so that the absence can be recorded as EXCUSED. This helps make sure that students are SAFE and in a place where families EXPECT them to be.
*With two (2) or more unexcused absences, participation in the concert will be at my discretion.
Thank you! I’m looking forward to a great year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Maureen McCoy
