NEW students only, returning students are not required to fill in this form, as students are automatically re-enrolled unless notice is given.
Instrumental tuition is available at Wellesley on piano, violin, cello, woodwind (recorder, clarinet, saxophone, flute), brass (trumpet, trombone), drums and guitar. Specialist vocal tuition is also available. Lessons on violin, cello and piano are available for boys in years 1-8. Having a piano at home is a requirement of piano lessons. Lessons on all other instruments, including vocal tuition, are available for years 5-8 students.
Music lessons take place during school time including breaks and also before and after school, depending on arrangements with individual tutors and in conjunction with class teachers. Teachers have access to the public school calendar and will do their best to ensure boys attend their lessons, however it is the parents responsibility to let teachers know if their son will be absent from a lesson. Boys are supported and encouraged to take personal responsibility for getting to their lessons on time each week.
Profiles of music teachers can be found on the school website. Lessons are $39 per half hour. To enroll for lessons, please fill in the music lesson enrolment form below. Following completion of this form, parents will be contacted directly by the teacher concerned regarding lesson times and availability. Teachers will also advise on the hiring of instruments where necessary.
Commitment to daily practice at home in between lessons is a requirement of tuition and is essential for progress. Boys who have the ability to do so are encouraged to contribute to the life of the school when they are ready by performing at assemblies, joining the school orchestra, rock-band, choir or other music groups which may be running.
In order to minimize interruptions to class programmes and to ensure as many boys as possible have the opportunity to partake in lessons, boys may learn one instrument only during school hours. The school contact person for music lessons is Carolyn Currington.
Enrollment Period:
Students are enrolled for a
full term, and at the end of each term are automatically re-enrolled for
the next term. If you wish to withdraw before the end of the term, you
will still be charged for the whole term.
Changes to/Withdrawing from Lessons:
You are required to give a minimum of 4 weeks’ notice
in writing, if you wish to withdraw from lessons. If your child is unable to
attend a lesson due to illness or school event, the instrumental teacher must
be contacted either by you or the student at least 24 hours before the
scheduled lesson time. A credit will then be available for that lesson if
sufficient time is given. If no prior contact is made, then the lesson must
still be paid for.
