:: ABOUT THE SERIES ::
Scratch is a multi-disciplinary salon of staged works-in-progress. A partnership between borderlandsKC (curator/producer) and Charlotte Street Foundation (funder/host), each Scratch Night features 3-5 excerpts of new works-in-progress and a brief feedback session win which audiences submit written responses to artists' questions. The Series’ artist-centric feedback framework has been utilized by dozens of artists and companies to receive support and fuel subsequent development.
:: ARTISTS & GENRES ::
• Generative artists and ensembles across performance disciplines are encouraged to apply.
• The Series does not present seated/staged readngs or traditional plays (realism). Staged musical theatre and more adventurous new plays are welcome to apply.
:: COMPENSATION & SUPPORT ::
Participating artists/companies receive:
• a stipend [$150 for a solo artist; +$50 per collaborator up to $350]
• video and photo documentation of your performance
• a technician who designs/runs basic lights and sound cues
• a 30-minute, day-of tech + spacing rehearsal• bespoke audience feedback
• pre- and post-performance 1:1 support by the curator, scalable based on your needs and goals

:: SERIES CURATOR ::
Scratch is curated by Jay Gilman + borderlandsKC. As an established champion for generative performing artists, Jay was artistic director of Minnesota Fringe for 3 seasons; produced new plays and performance in Philly and Baltimore for a decade; and has served as a grants/artistic evaluator for the NEA, Missouri Arts Council, Minnesota State Arts Board, Twin Cities Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, and nominator for the Ivey and Barrymore Awards. Jay previously produced a similar series thru Minnesota Fringe; and is inspired by similar series elsewhere including Philadelphia’s FringeArts.
