Step 2: RTR Apprentice Resident Application
Thank you for your interest in the RTR program! We are excited that you want to become a teacher and are hopeful that we can help you fulfill that dream. 

*Please note that this application is for individuals with an associate's degree. If you have a bachelor's degree, please apply to RTR using this link (transcripts will be uploaded directly to the application). 

This is Step 2 of the application process. If you have not yet completed Step 1 of the process, please upload all previous college and university transcripts here.

Please note the following:
  1. This is a 2-year program that enables individuals to complete their bachelor's degree and become a licensed elementary or special education teacher.
  2. You must have an associate's degree (associate of arts, associate of science, associate of arts & science, associate of fine arts, certificate of general studies, or general education certificate) from a US institution (international associate degree equivalent does not qualify).
  3. You must have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
  4. If selected for the program, you will receive a stipend that will cover the cost of your VCU tuition. In exchange, you will sign a service agreement committing to work as a teacher in a high-need school in your residency school district for 3 years immediately following graduation from the program.
Your transcripts and RTR application will be evaluated to determine eligibility for an interview. Interviews will be held via Zoom. If selected for the RTR program, enrollment will be contingent upon application to and acceptance by Virginia Commonwealth University.
