Location
It is our intention to work mainly from our office at Titan Enterprise Business Centre, 1 Aurora Avenue, Queens Quay, Clydebank, G81 1BF. There is ample free parking adjacent to the office, and the building is a 10-minute walk from Clydebank railway station. The position will also involve working from home at times, attending other offices, premises and buildings for meetings and surveys, and active buildings sites during the construction phase. Health and safety training and personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided.

Contract Type
The advertised position is a full time, permanent position of 35 hours a week, but part time applications would be considered. The contract will include a six-month probationary period.

Company Background
Bruach Architects was founded in 2016 by architects Colin Hastie and Louise Ewing, who between them bring over 30 years’ experience as project architects, project team leaders, lead consultants and contract administrators, with a particular focus on community architecture and housing. In its first few years, the business has established itself as a high-quality and client-focused practice with a core of loyal clients and an ever-growing number of new domestic and commercial clients.

Currently on the drawing board are a range of domestic residential extensions and alterations, one-off new build houses, multiple unit new build residential developments, community hubs, educational refurbishments, dental surgeries, office fit out, and glamping developments. Our services range from initial feasibility and options appraisals, through all stages of the RIBA Plan of Work including statutory approvals, design development, technical design, tender, construction and post-completion evaluation. We work on new build and refurbishment projects, and also on Listed Buildings or in Conservation Areas.

Both Colin and Louise are fully qualified, registered and chartered architects, and between them are members of the RIBA, RIAS, GIA, SEDA and APS. The practice is also an RIAS Chartered Practice.

Job Advert
We are currently seeking a passionate, organised and enthusiastic architect or equivalent to join our small but growing team. You would be directly involved in all stages of diverse and exciting architectural projects throughout Scotland in residential, commercial and community sectors. Day to day duties would include running of projects, design output, client/ consultant/ contractor liaison, assisting the directors in managing project and office workload and administration, and ensuring the delivery of exceptional customer service.

Candidates should be qualified architects, registered with the ARB, have strong design and presentations skills, good communication skills, a good technical understanding, and should be enthusiastic about learning and developing their own professional skills. Autodesk Revit experience is desirable but not essential. BIM experience is not required.

Main Tasks/ Responsibilities
• Carry out the role of project architect, lead consultant, Principal Designer as required
• Undertake initial client meetings to establish brief, budget, objectives, needs and expectations
• Prepare fee proposals, undertake fee discussions, and prepare appointment documents in discussion with Company Directors
• Undertake measured site surveys and prepare accurate existing and proposed 3D Revit models for new projects
• Develop design ideas and options for projects, and develop designs through all RIBA Plan of Work stages
• Create, develop and revise Revit 3D models and drawings, details, images, spreadsheets, schedules, specifications, NBS and other project documents
• Be familiar with Planning, Building Regulations, Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, and other relevant legislation and ensure designs and proposals comply where required
• Communicate and liaise with clients, contractors and other consultants by email, phone, video call and in person
• Prepare and issue project documentation including instructions, certificates and contract notices
• Work with contractors and other consultants to resolve technical issues as they arise during the design process or on site
• Attend client, design team, technical, local authority and site meetings, deliver reports and chair minutes and take minutes when required
• Carry out design risk reviews and prepare risk management documentation, prepare Pre Construction Information and Health and Safety Files in accordance with CDM regulations
• Understand and comply with Bruach procedures and standards
• Provide additional project or office administrative services as required by Company Directors

Line Management
The successful candidate would report to Colin Hastie and Louise Ewing (Company Directors).
