Array is Elmwood Players' season of one act plays and live music presented over four nights from 18th August 2021. Any ages given are a guideline only, we welcome everyone to audition in our relaxed workshop auditions on Saturday 3rd July. These plays are a great way to have some fun in theatre without having to commit to the full rehearsal or production season.

The plays are:


1) ALL I REALLY NEED TO KNOW I LEARNED FROM BEING IN A BAD PLAY
Cast of twelve – any age, any sex.  There will be a double up of parts.

Based on several disastrous theatrical experiences, All I Really Need To Know I Learned By Being In A Bad Play peels back a tattered curtain to examine the process of putting on a show that is less than good. A stuffy narrator guides the audience through the whole sorry process. We go from the audition—where the director is more worried about roast beef than paying attention to the warm-up exercise, and the neurotic cast pretends to be bacon—to rehearsals—where a passive-aggressive stage manager gives everyone grief. There's also a special meeting of the Small Part Support Group and a production of Romeo and Juliet  with costumes of potato sacks and bowler hats.


2) SEQUENCE OF EVENTS

- Margaret (Claude’s mother)
- Herbert (Claude’s father)
- Claude (young man, 21ish)
- Lily Ann (young prostitute 20’s)

A taut, Edwardian drama concerning the hanging of a young man for the murder of a prostitute. The play is narrated by the hangman and involves a strange and fascinating web of sex and death.


3) WHAT'S FOR PUDDING?
- Jack & Mary (married couple) M/F
- Maureen & Dennis (Friends and a married couple) M/F
- Ted! M

A quick paced comedy centred on a married couple where the wife is bored and the husband is an accountant (now you know why she is bored)! When their friends pop over and the drinks start flowing, mayhem is unleashed with slapstick moments, quick one liners, a wee bit of profanity and a budgie up a vacuum cleaner.
