Purpose of the Research

I want us to work together to answer the question: how have 2SLGBTQ+ (Two Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans, Queer) communities challenged oppression. I want us to use this info to create 3-5 posters that celebrate 2SLGBTQ+ activism. I am doing this as part of my research at George Brown College to inspire students to fight the injustices they see and experience.  

What You Will Be Asked to Do in the Research:  You will be part of a group of advisors that helps my team and I make this project happen. We will connect via online surveys two times in June, the surveys will each be available for two weeks. Each survey is an opportunity to have input from the George Brown College student community and make some decisions as a group.

1. Brainstorming (June 1-14 2020): Together we will make a big list of 2SLGBTQ+ activists around the world who have made a difference in their communities.
2. Picking (June 15-28 2020): We will pick (and rank) our top 10 activists to turn into posters.


Risks and Discomforts:
You might feel really sad or mad thinking about discrimination or how communities have been oppressed.  If you feel upset, there are resources and supports available at George Brown College. I’m able to support you to ensure you are able to access these services.

Benefits of the Research and Benefits to You:

We will celebrate our community and its activist wins!
You will participate in creating education materials!
You may learn new things about our community and history.

Voluntary Participation and Withdrawal: Your participation in the study is completely voluntary.  You can stop participating in the study at any time, for any reason, if you so decide. Your decision not to volunteer, to stop participating, or to refuse to answer particular questions, will not affect your relationship with the researcher (John Caffery), or George Brown College.  An online reminder of voluntary participation and withdrawal will be shared at the beginning of each session.  Your participation has no impact on accessing services at George Brown College.

Confidentiality: All the ideas shared in the survey will be used to create the final poster series. No one person will ever be identified. There are two options for participants to choose from when deciding to what extent you want to be credited for your participation as an advisor. You can choose to have your:

__ Name not associated with the program
