SciXchange High School Programs
Thanks for your interest in having us deliver Science activities with your students this year. Please note that all activities will be facilitated virtually by our volunteers - there is no in-person facilitation at this time.

All activities are booked on a first come, first served basis.

We are offering 2 programs for high school students:

1) High School Labs - These workshops are approx. 1 hour and cover subjects in Biology, Chemistry and Physical Sciences. Volunteers will guide students through the lab virtually. Students may be in a physical classroom or online. Materials must be provided by the school/student and include common grocery/craft items.

2) Computer Literacy Activities - These workshops are approx. 1 hour and introduce coding and machine learning. Students must have access to a personal computer and internet. No special software is required.

Classroom Specifications
All of our programs will be facilitated by our volunteers/staff in a virtual capacity. We realize you may not know what your class set-up will be yet (or may change throughout the year). We will try our best to be flexible with the facilitation of our lessons. Please provide as much information as possible.
Will the activity take place in a physical classroom or a virtual classroom? *
Our Volunteers will facilitate all activities virtually. They can facilitate the activity in a live classroom or a virtual classroom.
Do you have the ability and capacity to provide necessary activity materials to your students? *
Since our volunteers will not be facilitating activities in-person, they will not be able to bring activity materials for the students. For the safety of our staff and your school, we are asking schools to provide necessary student materials (we will provide a list for your chosen activity which includes common craft/grocery items). If this provides a barrier to your students' participation please indicate below and we can try to arrange an alternative.
Ryerson University uses Zoom for our online platform. What platform can we use to engage with your class?
SciXchange can provide a link to a Zoom meeting to run the activity. Our volunteers can Zoom into your classroom or each student can join the Zoom meeting from individual computers. If you prefer or are required to use a different platform please let us know.

Education Programs
We schedule activities on a first come, first served basis, according to our volunteer's availability. You may request more than one activity however in order to provide access to our programs, we do not book multiple days with the same school. If you would like a second activity your second request will be placed at the bottom of the priority list and we will visit all new schools before re-visiting schools within the same school year.

HIGH SCHOOL LABS
Working with a partner, volunteers will facilitate lab activities virtually with high school students. Students may interact with volunteers through video conferencing or volunteers may video conference directly into their classroom.

COMPUTER LITERACY
Working with a partner, volunteers will facilitate computer lab activities virtually with students of all ages. These activities will be conducted virtually through video conferencing. Teachers must select an activity that corresponds to their students' skill level. In some cases no coding experience is necessary.
Which of our Education Programs are you interested in? *
You will have the opportunity to select a second program further down.
