Lancer Dancer 2023 Tryout Contract
Parent/Guardian and Lancer Dancer candidate: please read the following information carefully and submit this form by Friday, April 21st. It is imperative that both parent/guardian and student understand the commitment, rules, and expenses that are required to be a successful and contributing member of this team. My parent(s) and I have read the Lancer Dancer Team Constitution and understand all of the requirements (including the time commitment and financial expectations) associated with participating in the program. We accept these terms and conditions, and if I make the team I will commit to this program, which includes participating in all performances, fundraisers, events, and competitions, including but not limited to the Lancer Dancer Calendar of Events.  I will come to class/rehearsal each time, dressed appropriately and ready to work. I will dedicate myself to my team by working hard, keeping a positive attitude, and showing kindness and respect at all times. *

Drill team is a one year (12 month) commitment and takes up a tremendous amount of time. If selected as a member of the Lancer Dancers, attendance at practices is imperative, and attendance at all performances is mandatory. I will schedule work, appointments, vacations, college visits, and any other activities around practice and performance times. I will make these sacrifices without complaint because I am part of a team, and my actions and choices will impact my entire team. Drill team is both a privilege and an honor and it can be a rewarding experience when expectations are met. *

Drill team is a financial commitment that could exceed $2500 for Varsity and $600 for JV. If selected, I will uphold my financial responsibilities to the team through fundraising and/or payments.   *

Should I make Varsity, my expenses will include a trip to Orlando, Florida for Nationals in late February/early March. *

I understand that qualified judges will evaluate my tryout performance for 85% of my score, and the other 15% of my score will be given by the coach(es). *

A current spot on the team does not constitute automatic renewal, and I must tryout each year for the squad.  I am subject to being cut from the team if I do not meet the standards. *

I will be required to attend summer dance team camp May 24th, 25th, and 26th at SME. *

I understand this year's tryout process.  I know that I am responsible for learning the tryout routines and technical skills on my own time once the videos have been posted on Monday, April 24th.  I must learn these routines BEFORE the first clinic on Monday, May 1st. *

I will ONLY be considered for the team(s) that I select on my online application. I understand that if I choose to be considered for ONLY the Varsity team but do not score in the Varsity range, I will not be allowed on the JV team. *

If selected for Varsity, I will be required to attend band/choreography camp July 31-Aug 11, 2023.  I understand that if I miss any part of choreography intensives or band camp I will forfeit my position in those dances. *

All rehearsals/intensives with outside choreographers will be mandatory.  If I miss any part of a rehearsal with an outside choreographer, I will forfeit my position in that dance. *

I understand the high standards of the Lancer Dancer organization. I commit to representing myself, my school, and my team in a manner which is beyond reproach, at all times. No drinking, smoking, use of illegal substances, or inappropriate behavior in or out of uniform will be tolerated. If selected I will NOT put myself in questionable situations. Any and all social media postings should be school appropriate. Any infractions will be assigned consequences according to the SME Drill Team Constitution and the school and district guidelines. *

My academics are priority. I will be expected to strive for my best in the classroom. I commit to maintaining my grades and attending school regularly. I understand I am unable to perform if I am not passing five classes the day prior to a performance. *

If selected for JV or Varsity, drill team is a class during the school year, and my grade will be determined by my ability to follow SME drill team expectations.  Excessive classroom absences, missed performances, and missed rehearsals WILL affect my grade. *

I understand that attendance at rehearsals in the days leading up to performances and competitions are crucial to helping my team be the best it can be.  I will not schedule vacations, college visits, or appointments that would cause me to miss any rehearsals two weeks prior to a performance or competition. *

I understand that should I miss a rehearsal, I am responsible for learning and knowing what I missed BEFORE the next rehearsal I attend.   *

If selected for Varsity, I will be required to attend rehearsals after school until 3:30 on 7th hour days and Thursday evenings from 6:00-9:00pm.  I will also be required to attend extra rehearsals in January and February to prepare for Nationals, as scheduled by the coach(es) and captains. *

I will be expected to maintain my dance technique and ability by participating in dance classes outside of drill team. All team members will be re-evaluated throughout the season to determine their position within the routines. Placements/performances are NOT guaranteed.  SME Lancer Dancer Coaches reserve the right to change who is dancing in a routine if the expected criteria is not being met at any point in the season. *

If selected, I promise to abide by all aforementioned rules/regulations and to cooperate with and follow instructions given by the dance team coach(es), and fulfill my duties as a member throughout the school year. *
