Terms and Conditions - Please Read - Important
  1. Payment. Registration is only guaranteed after receipt of payment, and the courses have high demand, so you are better off making payment as soon as you register. After you submit this form, we will send you an invoice according to your payment preference. You will choose a payment method below.
  2. Class Size. Each class is limited to 10 participants. These courses fill up. Please be considerate of others: sign up if you are serious and then keep your commitment. If any class has 6 or fewer attendees, the Host can cancel the class and return registration fees in full.
  3. Cancellation. You can cancel anytime before the dates specified in the table below, and as long as we are able to fill your slot, we will refund your registration fee minus a $50 headache fee. Registrations are transferrable for no additional fee if you find a substitute who is qualified to take your place. If you or we are not able to fill your slot, you forfeit your registration fee in full.
  4. Postponement due to Weather. Game of Logging is offered throughout much of the year, and class will be held in the case of cold weather, rain, light snow, and moderate winds. This is Vermont, after all. If the Instructor determines that the conditions of the roads or the forest stands are too dangerous, you will be alerted and the class will be moved to an alternate date. Note that if a class is cancelled due to severe weather, we will make every effort to find a mutually agreeable rain date for all students, but if you cannot make it and we can’t fill your spot from a waiting list, you will forfeit your registration fee in full.
  5. Clothing. You will spend time standing in the weather of the season. In the winter, spring and fall it can be cold, so please dress in warm layers, including thick socks, warm gloves and head covering. In the spring and summer there can be ticks and biting insects, so we recommend tucking pants into socks and performing a tick check after each day in the woods. Some people prefer to use 0.5% permethrin sprayed on clothing and gear. Alternatives include EPA registered products containing: DEET, picaridin, IR3535, Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus (OLE), para-menthane-diol (PMD), or 2-undecanone.
  6. Chainsaw. Level 1 classes usually use the instructor's saw. For all other Levels, bring your own chainsaw with a new chain and in good running condition, your own fuel, bar oil, and a bar wrench, if required. For Level 2, bring a chainsaw toolkit if you have one: wrenches, chain file, depth gauge and flat file. If you use an electric chainsaw, please bring it along with charged batteries, but expect to use the instructor's gas saw as well.
  7. Attitude/Hygiene. Please come ready to learn (even the old dogs), well rested, and drug & alcohol free. Be kind to one another and watch out for the safety of each other. Please be hygienic and respect the personal space of others in an effort to reduce the chances of transmitting illnesses to your classmates. Expect there to be no bathroom facilities; you will pee or poop in the woods, if need be.
  8. Outcome. After completing Game of Logging training, be prepared for a life-changing transformation in your confidence, productivity, and safety with the chainsaw. You will receive a certificate of completion and access to the written course materials.

Upcoming Course Dates - APRIL IS NOW FULL (as of Jan. 17, 2024)
Required Protective Gear

You will bring your own hard hat or helmet, eye protection, hearing protection, long work pants, sturdy leather work boots or hiking boots, leather or mechanic-style gloves, and either approved chainsaw chaps or chainsaw pants. The instructor & host will have limited extra gear to borrow. Online vendors with good products/prices include Bailey's and Northern Tool. Make the investment - you are worth it.
Suggested Tools

For local chainsaw purchase, service, tools and parts, try DSC Husqvarna in Wilmington, Ron's Husqvarna in Townshend, or Brown & Roberts in Brattleboro for Stihl & Husky.
Course Choices and Cost

We will invoice you by email with payment amount and instructions for your selected payment method. Pay today to hold your slot - your registration is not assured until payment is received.

Courses must be taken in numerical order and require prior certificates of completion if you are looking to start with Levels 2, 3 or 4. To register for just one level, space permitting, check the Other box and describe what course you would like to enroll in. A single course costs $250 cash or check, $265 e-payment.
