As with anything that's worth learning, learning an instrument takes practice. For the first semester, students will be expected to practice at least 15 minutes at home three to four days a week. Are you willing to encourage and support this? *

Sports and Band?
I am a strong supporter of sports, and want to make sure that being in band doesn't keep students from participating. All band rehearsals happen during the school day, so there are no regular conflicts with games or practices. We are very careful to schedule our concerts on days where there are no games.
A band is like a sports team– we can't perform without a full team. Will you make sure that your student attends both the Winter and Spring concerts? These concerts will never be scheduled against sports games.

Our band program is supported by our VPA Booster program, which is a group organized and run by parents of our band, art, and drama students. They run various fundraisers, and have helped to purchase instruments and equipment for our band programs. Ways you could contribute could be as simple as picking up returnables from our dropbox, bringing baked goods for bake sales, or helping setup/takedown chairs at concerts. Would you be willing to commit to some level of helping out with fundraising and events?
