CyberPatriot
CyberPatriot is the Air Force Association's National Youth Cyber Education Program, created to inspire K-12 students toward careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines critical to our nation's future.
National Youth Cyber Defense Competition
The National Youth Cyber Defense Competition puts teams of high school and middle school students in the position of newly hired IT professionals tasked with managing the network of a small company. Through a series of online competition rounds, teams are given a set of virtual operating systems and are tasked with finding and fixing cybersecurity vulnerabilities while maintaining critical services. Students compete for national recognition and scholarship opportunities.
UTEP will create the competing teams and assign each middle/high school student on a team. Teams will be made up of at 2-5 players and all within their respective middle/high school, if possible. Each team will be assigned a Coach, a UTEP student, and will meet at least once a week, either in-person or virtually.
TRAINING AND COMPETITION DATES
Coach-Competitor training will tentatively start the week of October 16th-20th. The competitions will be held on October 21st, November 4th, and December 9th. All competitions will be six consecutive hours at UTEP (lunch will be provided). Please ensure to be at UTEP 30 minutes prior to competition start time to allow for setup of machines.
*** Qualifying teams will progress from the State Round to the Semi-Finals which would be hosted at UTEP on January 20th, 2024 ***
