REGISTER: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Singapore International Schools (free online conference)
DATE & TIME: Sunday November 1st 2020 at 9 am EST (2 pm GMT, 3 pm CET, 10 pm SGT)
Organisation to Decolonise International Schools (ODIS) will be hosting a PARTIALLY RECORDED Zoom conference on 1/11/2020 at 9 am EST (North America East Coast) (10 pm Singapore, 3 pm France, 2 pm UK). Conference guests will be the Out For Solidarity team and the Do Better Dover team, each representing their former international schools in Singapore.
Each team will discuss their efforts to bring about new policies in their schools to end discrimination and teach a decolonised (diverse and inclusive) curriculum. Which topics exactly are missing from the teaching framework? How responsive is the school board? Is there support from the parent community? Has there been racist behaviour at this school in the past, and is it being acknowledged? This part of the conference will be recorded.
Afterwards the conference will split into Break Out rooms in which viewers can participate in answering discussion questions. This part will not be recorded.
This is part of a series of conferences we are hoping to launch with teams of alumni from various international schools across the world, tackling anti-racist and inclusion reforms in overseas education.
