Public Comment -July 2021- Use of Pandemic Relief Funding for Prince Edward County Public Schools- ARP Act
Prince Edward County Public Schools (PECPS) is seeking public comment on the use of grant funds under the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) fund.  PECPS requests input from the public on how funds retained at the local level should be used to assist in mitigating the effects of COVID-19 on teaching and learning.  Commenters may wish to provide input on how students' academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs should be addressed, particularly for student groups that have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic.  Public comment will be accepted via Google Survey or by emailing Mrs. Amy McClure, Coordinator of Federal Programs, at amy.mcclure@pecpsk12.org with the words "Public Comment" on the subject line.  Public Comment will be accepted through August 13, 2021.  Input provided will inform the development of the local ARP ESSER grant application.  Grant applications are approved by the school board and must be submitted to the Virginia Department of Education by September 1, 2021.

The ARP Act requires the school division to use 20% of funds to address learning loss. Other examples of allowable uses of funds may include: Activities to address the unique needs of low-income children or students, children with disabilities, English Learners, racial and ethnic minorities, students experiencing homelessness, and foster care youth; Training and professional development for staff on sanitation; technology; and/or summer learning loss.
