Elections for SCAH’s new board members are now open (July 6 - August 31)! While all candidates are running unopposed, we invite all SCAH members to vote as a way of becoming familiar with the new board and their positions. Candidate description: Ellen Y. Tani is a historian of modern and contemporary art, with a focus on comparative race and ethnicity in the United States. She is currently A.W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts. Her goals for SCAH include robust integration of curatorial projects into SCAH’s programming, advancing its work in equity and diversity, supporting regional group convenings, and creating opportunities for members to discuss major shifts in the field.

Candidate description: I am a scholar of global contemporary art and biennial studies, and assistant professor of modern and contemporary art history at Swarthmore College. My work examines the relations of coloniality that were and remain active in the formation of global contemporary art as we know it today, focusing on the translations that engaged situated art practices undertake in their access to international networks of art circulation. I am currently writing a book about the early years of the art biennial boom.

Candidate description: Neal is a doctoral candidate at UT Austin specializing in performance and conceptual art by artists of African descent. While lecturing in African American Art at Georgia State University in Atlanta, she is writing her dissertation "Who Taught You To Think (Like That): Benjamin Patterson's Conceptual Aesthetic." As a newcomer to SCAH, I will work collaboratively with the board for cultivating equitable, expansive art histories.

Candidate description: Vuk Vuković is a PhD student in the History of Art & Architecture and Film & Media Studies at the University of Pittsburgh. He received his BA from New York University Abu Dhabi, undertook internships at MoMA and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, and worked as a curator at the Contemporary Art Centre of Montenegro – his research focuses on the exhibition of time-based media. As a global scholar, Vuković researched and worked on multiple projects across the art world, which equipped him with skills to connect with individuals of diverse backgrounds. As a Graduate Representative, he plans to bridge and foster professional relations with young scholars interested in learning and joining SCAH.

Candidate description: Harry C.H. Choi is a PhD student in Art History at Stanford University. He works on modern and contemporary art with a particular focus on avant-garde film and video. Previously, he was Marjorie Susman Curatorial Fellow at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago and 12-month Intern in the Department of Media and Performance Art at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. His writing has been published in Artforum, ArtAsiaPacific, and Texte zur Kunst, as well as a number of exhibition catalogues. He obtained his BA from Harvard University and MA from the University of Chicago.
