Thanks so much for your interest in having your short story featured on Finding Fantasy Reads. If you are new to Finding Fantasy Reads, please listen to the
trailer episode as well as
another full episode to make sure we are a good fit for each other.
This is currently a one-woman show (with the help of my brother on the male POV narrations). Please know that I personally review each applicant, but you will only be contacted if I have a slot available for your story. In order to improve your odds of being selected, please keep the following in mind:
1) All types of fantasy except erotica will be considered. Short story content must be free of language and spice to maintain my non-explicit content rating. Stories will not be disqualified for violence, but I aim to keep this podcast fairly family-friendly (my kids are probably listening). If it helps, think G for language, PG for romance, and up to PG-13 for violence. You do not have to consider yourself a clean fantasy writer in order to be featured on the podcast, but the short story you submit must be considered clean to be featured.
2)
My policy on length has recently changed - please read carefully: Stories between 1k and 30k will be considered at this time. Stories under 5k may be paired with another story (or two) in order to make a 30 minute episode. Stories over 10k will be split into multiple episodes. The break points will be determined by me for length of episodes (though I try to take the story's flow into consideration).
Stories that are between 5-10k will still be given higher priority because they make for a complete episode without a "to be continued."
3) Stories should be professionally edited. I don't have the time to critique or edit submissions.
4) Applications that have referrals will be given a higher priority. Referrals help reduce the amount of time I spend looking for quality stories. So if you know someone who has previously been featured, ask if they're willing to refer your story to me.
5) Please be aware that I'm typically reading 4 months out and booking 2-3 months out because of the time it takes to record the episodes. If you're looking to be featured in the next couple months, it's not likely to happen because those dates are already booked and possibly recorded.
If you do not hear from me, it doesn't mean your story isn't worth sharing. It could mean one of several things - I'm short on time and haven't been able to review many of the applicants, I've recently featured a similar story, or I'm swamped with recommendations from previous authors. Reviewing and choosing stories is the most time consuming part of the podcast for me. I hope to someday create a team to help me with this process, but until then, I know there are going to be some fantastic stories I'm missing because of time constraints. I hope yours isn't one of them, but I also hope you understand if it is. Please feel free to apply again with a different story!
My goal is to use this podcast to first serve readers and then serve authors. I want to create a podcast you're excited to share with your readers so they can find more books and so all the featured authors can find more readers. If we still seem like a good fit, continue on! I hope to be working with you in the near future!
