Project Information
As a network and platform for collaboration and discussion, Creative Lives at the University of Sheffield is actively engaged in ensuring a sustainable and impactful collaboration between artists, academics and other stakeholders, in order to achieve meaningful outcomes that will have a determined effect on any future policy connected to ageism in the arts. The knowledge gathered during the two Creative Lives symposia (March 2020 and July 2021), published in a report launched in September 2021 (https://creativelivessheff.org/report/), highlighted five key areas of concern that require immediate action. Through this survey, we would like to invite educational institutions, arts organisations, policy makers, to actively engage with these recommendations by sharing with us examples of the work they do in order to help dismantle ageism in the creative professions. The purpose of this survey is to collect nationwide information about the valuable work institutions do to engage with issues of age and ageism, but also to highlight the challenges faced by institutions in carefully balancing good practice with financial pressures accentuated throughout the COVID pandemic.
Data Storage and Use
The data gathered in this survey will be employed in the writing of a good practice policy proposal that will encourage all institutions to positively engage with the problems of age and ageism in the creative industries. All data provided will be held on a University of Sheffield owned, password protected Google drive. Reference can be made to your institution in the final policy proposal which will be published both online and in a physical copy. Parts of the data gathered from the survey will be used in future articles co-authored by Dr Carmen Levick and Dr Kirsty Surgey.
