Eligible students may take courses for which there are no endorsements, such as computer science, foreign language, history, political science, or psychology, as long as they have taken all sections of the qualifying assessment and reached the qualifying score threshold.   *
Students must be enrolled in both the school district and postsecondary institution during the local school district’s regular academic year and must be enrolled in at least one high school class. *
The courses must be academic in nature.  The college courses cannot be a hobby, craft, or recreation course, or in the subject areas of physical education, music, theology, divinity, or religious education. *
I understand that I am responsible for the course and section that I have chosen.  It is my responsibility, and not Western High School's to make this selection.  If you have further questions about college advising, please contact Jackson College at 517-796-8425. *
It is the student’s responsibility to make sure that their course will transfer to the colleges they are looking to attend after graduation. Here is a resource to help: MTA *
Western School District will pay the lesser of: The actual charge for tuition, mandatory course fees, materials fees and registration fees; not including textbooks or transportation costs; or the state portion of the student’s foundation allowance, adjusted to the proportion of the school year they attend the postsecondary institution.  If a course exceeds the maximum cost covered by Western Schools, the student and his/her parent/guardian must pay the difference in cost to the cooperating college or university.  It is very likely that a student will have course fees in excess of this amount.  It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of this overage and to work with the college on establishing a payment plan.  Please see your counselor if you believe the cost of dual enrollment, including class materials/books, will be a financial burden to your family. *
Western School District will not be responsible for any book or lab fees that the student may accrue. Please see your counselor if financial assistance is needed. *
If a student enrolled in a dual enrollment class at a college or university does not earn a passing grade, or is dropped from the class for any reason, the student and his/her parent/guardian is responsible for reimbursement of all costs for that class to Western High School. *
Students must take off one hour at WHS for every 3 credit course they enroll in.  This hour will be a student’s Flex hour.  A student may not take off more than one hour for a 3 credit class.  A student may elect to take off 2 hours for a 4 credit course, but this is not required.   *
It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of all start and end dates for their course.  These may not line up with the WHS academic calendar.  Students must follow the calendar established by their college, including snow days and holidays. *
Written permission from parents must be on file in the WHS Office for all students driving for dual enrolled classes, and for the students who are riding with student drivers. *
Students and parents are aware that once a course has started, a “drop” or “withdraw” will not be possible.  If a student is administratively dropped from the course, it is their responsibility to notify their counselor immediately.  There will be academic and disciplinary consequences if students fail to do so.   *
The student will be assigned two grades for the course.  A college grade/credit and a high school grade/credit.  At the time of enrollment, a student must  indicate if the course will be taken for college credit only.  *
Please indicate your credit preference for your classes.

Please know it may not be possible to take a class for college credit only if it is a credit you need to complete for graduation.
*
It is the student’s responsibility to contact their professor directly with any questions or concerns.  They will be given this contact information on the first day of class.  Western High School does not have any supervisory capacity over the content or instructional methods for the course. *
Please list the classes you are considering taking and at which college.  Catalogues can be found on each school's website.  Here is a document to help you navigate JC's website. JC Dual Enrollment Info  *
