School Virtual Pilgrimage
Welcome to the Ealing Deanery Schools Virtual Pilgrimage.  The pilgrimage is focused on the Holy Land where Jesus lived, died, and rose again.  In order to take part, we will link your local sites to those of the Holy Land, e.g. a visit to a church will represent a visit to Jerusalem.  All you have to do is walk to each of the sites, read the associated scripture and prayer and log the date. There is a passage of scripture to read for each site and a short prayer. We ask that for each place visited that you make a donation by placing a coin in a box so that we can send this to the Catholic Children's society. The schools will then count up the number of visits made to the virtual sites associated with the life of Jesus.  Try to visit as many of the ten places as you can. You can only visit one site per day.  You must remember to click submit each day. The submit button can be found by scrolling to the end of the page. Please keep to Lockdown Regulations while they are in place.  You can still visit these places if they are part of your daily exercise such as the park.

A Reading from the book of Revelation
Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Prayer
Father, by your Son's life, death and resurrection you make all things new. Help us to live as children of the resurrection and may we help to build your Kingdom on earth. Amen.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew
Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”

Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

Prayer
Father, your Son Jesus reversed the sin of our first parents who chose their own will above yours. Help us to be always ready to follow in his footsteps and always do the right thing according to your will. Amen.

Visit the local town centre.  This represents Capernaum, the Town of Jesus where most of Jesus' public ministry took place.
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew
Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali— to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah:

“Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,
the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan,
    Galilee of the Gentiles—
the people living in darkness
    have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
    a light has dawned.”

From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

Prayer
Father, your Son, the Light of the World, brought hope to the people living in darkness. May we let his light shine through us so that those who are far from him may feel his comforting presence as we strive to do good. Amen.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew
As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus. Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him. Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there opposite the tomb.

Prayer
Father, Son Jesus was buried in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea. The women who remained with him felt the pain of sorrow at the death of their friend Jesus. May your peace and love comfort all those who mourn the death of a loved one. We pray for all who have died this year especially those who died because of the coronavirus. May they rest in peace and rise in glory. Amen.

Visit a local school.  This represents how Jesus impressed the elders through his teaching. Don't forget to click submit at the end of the page.
A reading from the Gospel of Luke
When Jesus was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom. After the festival was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.

Prayer
Father, your Son Jesus impressed the elders with his questions and answers. Help us to always do our best at school. We give thanks for all who teach us especially our teachers. Amen.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John
As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

“Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.

Prayer
Father, your Son Jesus gave sight to the blind. May he open our eyes when we are blind to the truth so that we may see all people as our brothers and sisters and work for justice and peace. Amen.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it... The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Prayer
Father, your Son Jesus, the Word, become a human being like us and lived among us. May we let his words grow in our hearts so that we may become more and more like him. Amen.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark
Jesus saw a large crowd and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things. By this time it was late in the day, so his disciples came to him. “This is a remote place,” they said, “and it’s already very late. Send the people away so that they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.” But he answered, “You give them something to eat.” They said to him, “That would take more than half a year’s wages! Are we to go and spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat?” “How many loaves do you have?” he asked. “Go and see.” When they found out, they said, “Five loaves and two fish.”

Then Jesus directed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people. He also divided the two fish among them all. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish. The number of the men who had eaten was five thousand.

Prayer
Father, your son Jesus took the humble offerings and fed many people satisfying their hunger. May we always be prepared to share what we have with those in need, no matter how small the offering may be. Amen.

Visit a local laundry or dry cleaners.  This represents the place of the transfiguration (Jesus appeared in dazzling white clothes). Don't forget to click submit at the end of the page.
A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark
After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus. Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” (He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.) Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud: “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!” Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus.

Prayer
Father, your Son Jesus revealed his glory to his disciples before he suffered and died. May we be comforted by the hope of the resurrection as we remember all who suffer. May we recognise on those who are ill your presnece and glory and remember that you are the God of Light and in you there is no darkness. Amen.
