Instructions on how to sign up for the 2019-220 Winter Squash League for squash players in the Portland, Maine area. Registration is open between now and Wednesday, November 15th, 2019.

This year's league will be scheduled and will play using the 4 international sized courts at Portland Community Squash (PCS). All matches will be played at PCS. Greg Born will continue to be the leadership behind the league and will be the league "Commissioner" for this season. The league is open to all players though the fee for non-PCS members is higher. See below.

The Winter League will run in addition to Box Leagues. Both leagues are open to all players and you may play in both. To be fair, however, we want to make sure that Winter League players understand that the expectations of the league are different from the Box League. In both cases when you sign up for a league you are making a commitment to other people and you are expected to honor your commitment.


Winter League details:

** Location of play for the league will be at Portland Community Squash's facility on Noyes Street off Forest Ave in Portland, Maine. League night is played on both Monday and Tuesday nights. Your team could be scheduled to play on EITHER Monday night OR Tuesday night but never both in one week. Schedule for the season will be published in advance. Depending on responses some teams will have a bye on any given week.

** To play in the league you must be a member of Portland Community Squash or pay the facility use fee as part of the league registration. You must remain a member in good standing at PCS or pay the supplemental registration facility fee. To be redundantly clear, you do not need to have a membership at PCS if you pay the supplemental fee and your team may play matches on either Monday night OR Tuesday night during the season.

** Season will start in early December and finish in mid March. Holidays and vacation weeks will be skipped. Playoffs will be at the end of the season. Finals night will be held at PCS.

** The Winter league will have a one time fee for PCS members of $65 (Non-PCS Members fee: $165 limited slots available) for every player on a team roster participating. A league tee shirt is included in that price.

** This season the league will also provide balls for play. The official ball is a SINGLE dot Dunlop ball.

** Team size will depend on the number of players that sign up for the league and the distribution of players in the various skill levels. Our goal is for 75-100 players that can commit to playing a specific schedule at a specific time. In some seasons there are not enough roster spots for all players. We'll do our best but not every player will get a spot.

** League nights will be Monday and Tuesday evenings from 5:45-9pm. Your team will be scheduled to play either Monday night OR Tuesday night. Schedule for the season will be published in advance.

** Teams will be built by the league based on statistical algorithms to make the teams as even as possible. Criteria may include signup date, player abilities, US Squash rating, random seeding and, depending on demand, selection of players by captains.

** Club Locker live scoring mobile app will be used for ALL matches. We may use paper match scoresheets depending on device availability.

** All matches must be played on the designated league night during the designated time period and the designated courts based on the league schedule stored in US Squash.com's website. No exceptions and no flex scheduling.

** Players are expected to come and play AND referee another match during the league match time period for your team. You are participating in a team and your team expects you to be an active and supportive team member.

** Players that cannot make their scheduled matches are expected to find a substitute. The league will maintain a list of subs. If you can't make your match you are responsible for finding a sub.

** Some or all of Winter League matches may be video recorded and/or live streamed to YouTube. Filling out this application gives your consent for us to use this video for whatever we choose.

** League is open to all ability levels. We do ask, however, that all players have a basic understanding of the game and be willing to commit to their team and team responsibilities for the entire season. If you are a beginner or are very new to the game it might be best to start in the Box League or limit your role in the Winter League to being a substitute.

** League will be subject to league rules and PCS code of conduct. Greg Born is the league commissioner and his decisions are final.


How to register:

All players must submit an online form by filling out the form below. You will get a confirmation page indicating that you have registered. We will contact you with league details as they become available. You must submit a registration before the end of the day on Wednesday, November 15th. The League Administrator reserves the right to limit the number of players based on availability, team size or any other reason. Submitting your signup does not guarantee that you will be placed on a team. If too many players register we may elect to place players on a standby list for team slots should they become available.
