2023-2024 BLS Peer Mentoring Program Application
Thank you for your interest in the Peer Mentoring Program!  If selected as a peer mentor you will be required to attend a training session and then will be assigned to a mentor partner and a small group of about five 7th graders that you will meet with once a month during W-block from November - April.  Each month you will be given an agenda with a theme for the month, an icebreaker, and some talking points to help guide your discussion.

Please note that this is commitment for once a month and that you need to be responsible about attending as sixies will be counting on you.  You are also encouraged to check-in with your mentees outside of the group meeting through a group text or chat.  This program is so valuable to the sixies to have an older student to connect with and learn from, and, it's fun for you too!  You can also receive 15 hours of in-school community service for your participation.

You must apply by October 2nd in order to be considered for volunteering as a peer mentor.

Program dates - All during W block:
Oct 18 - training
Nov 15
Dec 20
Jan 17
Feb 7
March 20
April 10

Students who apply will receive an email in mid October with a decision about their acceptance to the program.  Students who are accepted are expected to be at training on 10/18 (please note that seniors who wish to attend the interview workshop should schedule it for the 10/11 date).   Please see Ms. Segal, guidance counselor, in room 107 with any questions.

12th graders only! - If you were a mentor last year, do you want to be considered for a position as a homeroom captain this year?

Each homeroom will have 1 Peer Mentor Homeroom Captain who is a lead mentor who participated in the program as a junior and would like a greater leadership role as a senior.  Homeroom Captains are responsible for working with the team of peer mentors in their homeroom to help with any struggles with communication, participation, attendance, and are a support to the faculty advisors in being a leader in the homeroom to help with organizing materials, taking attendance, and as a support wherever needed.

Homeroom captains are expected to participate in 1-2 extra W block meetings a year to help with planning and developing meeting agendas.
