Intergen Reading Program
A Monthly Book Group

Families as Partners (FAP) teams up with the Dorothy Alling Memorial Library (DAML) to sponsor a fun book group that brings together WCS middle school students, seniors from our community and parent volunteers.  Each book group will read and discuss 5 books over the course of the school year.

The program will kick-off in October with a “Get Acquainted” meeting.  The book groups will then meet during school hours once a month to discuss books in a relaxed and fun setting. 7th & 8th graders meet from 1:10pm-1:50pm. 5th & 6th graders meet from 1:50pm-2:30pm. (Please note, since this takes place during the school day, your student/s will miss part of some classroom time).

If your 5-8th grade child is interested in being considered for this program, please register by Friday, September 23rd.

Program dates (2nd Tuesday of the month except for the kick-off date which is the first Tuesday of October):
October 4 - Intergen kick-off (students receive 1st book)
November 8
December 13
January 10
February 14
March 14 - last meeting

This year's 5 book titles are:
  • All Thirteen: The Incredible Cave Rescue of the Thai Boys' Soccer Team by Christina Soontornvat  [non-fiction]
  • Star Fish by Lisa Fipps [Realistic Fiction, Verse]
  • Willow Deen by Katherine Applegate [Fantasy]
  • Millionaires for the Month by Stacy McAnulty [realistic fiction]

Are you interested in being a parent volunteer? We kick-off Intergen on Tuesday, October 4th. Thereafter we meet on the second Tuesday of the month November-March from 1:10-2:30.  Meetings are at the Dorothy Alling Memorial Library, (except for the kick-off which is at WCS). Adult volunteers are part of 2 student discussion groups, one of 5th/6th graders and one of 7th/8th graders. Both groups read the same book per month.
Are there other students that your child would like to be grouped with? If so, please list the names. (We will try to accommodate requests but cannot guarantee placements due to group size constraints)
How did you learn about Intergen? Please select all that apply. *
