2025 ASPIRES Internship Interest Form
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) has partnered with the Institute for STEM Education’s Career Awareness and Preparation (CAP) Program in launching a ten-week paid summer internship for students in CSU East Bay’s College of Science. The Advancing STEM Pioneers in Research in Energy Sciences (ASPIRES) internship program provided exposure CSUEB students to Berkeley Lab’s vast scientific network and shined a light on many potential career paths available with a degree in biology, chemistry, computer science, earth and environmental sciences, engineering, math, physics, and statistics.

What We're Looking For
Enthusiastic, committed students interested in working on a project in scientific disciplines such as materials, chemistry, physics, nano science, and computing, and STEM-adjacent communications roles with a mentor from Berkeley Lab's Energy Sciences Area.

What You'll Do
This 10-week paid summer internship program will pair undergraduate student interns with Berkeley Lab staff to work on some of the world’s most important challenges. As part of the ASPIRES program, interns will be part of an Energy Sciences Area intern cohort and have access to our planned summer networking activities such as scientific seminars, facility tours, poster sessions and more. Interns will engage in hands-on experiences and gain exposure to the everyday life of scientific and operations staff.

What You'll Gain
Students can expect to gain an inside perspective into STEM research careers and experience within the Lab’s wide range of chemistry and materials sciences laboratories and national user facilities during their internship. To complement the immersive educational and work experience students will receive, our program also offers an array of cross-functional networking and professional development opportunities for students - examples include our internship kick-off event with staff and Division leadership across ESA, facility tours, and a poster session.
